Fireworks Safety Tips

With Independence Day celebrations right around the corner, the EB Real Estate team is concerned about the safety of those in our community. We’d like to offer some fireworks tips to keep your get-togethers as safe as possible.

Leave Fireworks to the Professionals

  • Do not use any fireworks at home. The best way to protect your family and friends is to attend a public fireworks display, with professionals left to light the explosives.

  • Should you choose to use any type of fireworks, confirm that they are legal for private use in your locality.

Be Extra Careful with Sparklers

  • Sparklers are fun to look at, but can heat up to 1,200 degrees. Children’s arms are not long enough to handle this heat, but a safer alternative would be glow sticks. They don’t burn at temperatures hot enough to melt glass, but can be just as fun as sparklers and are available in a variety of colors.

  • Closely supervise children of all ages around fireworks at all times.

Take Necessary Precautions

  • Avoid wearing loose clothing while using fireworks.

  • Only light fireworks outdoors, but stay away from dry grass.

  • Aim fireworks away from buildings and vehicles.

  • Keep away from brush, leaves and any flammable substances.

Prepare for Accidents to Occur

  • Stand several feet away from lit fireworks. If a device is lit but does not ignite, do not stand over it to investigate the problem. Extinguish it with water and dispose of it.

  • Always keep a bucket of water and/or fire extinguisher nearby. Educate yourself on proper fire extinguisher use before the need to operate one becomes an emergency.

Should a child, or person of any age, be injured by fireworks, seek medical assistance immediately. If an eye injury occurs, do not allow the injured person to touch or rub it, as this can cause even more damage.
